So this week we’ve posted 12 videos from RailsConf 2012, the keynotes from days one and two are done plus the all talks from Salon H from day one, and the first two talks from Salon H on day two.  All of my equipment returned home yesterday so I know have the raw footage for day three.

Normally I’d do a lot of work over the weekend and push out another big batch of videos on Monday,  that isn’t going to happen this week.  Instead I’m traveling to Los Angeles in the morning, working tomorrow with my co-workers at AT&T in LA, and then on Saturday I’m recording and live streaming Farmhouse Conf.

Video post production will resume late Sunday or Monday.

First off I want to thank Ruby Central for the incredible opportunity to record all of the sessions held at Rails Conf 2012!  We were delighted to be choosen to make the contents of the conference available to the community at large!

  • Mountain West Ruby Conference 2011 – editing has been completed by Mustache Power Productions and should post soon
  • Los Angeles Ruby Conference 2012 – editing has been completed this past week by Joshua Elliot of Dogcrick Productions and all videos are on line.
  • Ruby on Ales 2012 (March 1-2) – editing will begin next week with work being done by Graphite Bull Productions
  • Mountain West Ruby Conference 2012 (March 16-17) – editing is being completed by Tyler Randquist of Confreaks and videos will be posted during May
  • RailsConf 2012 (April 23-25) – editing will begin this weekend by Coby Randquist of Confreaks (me – @kobier) and I’ll be joined by my other editors as needed to get all of Rails Conf sessions up by the end of May (this may cause some delays with the other events in the queue)

We will be migrating our streaming player over to the Youtube player for new video releases and gradually migrating our past conferences to it as time permits.  This will give us better analytics on our views generated from streaming video.  The full MP4′s and MP3′s will continue to be available.

2011 started off with a big rushed round of finalizing the new year planning and getting goals and objectives locked down for G5.  We also just finished up an Autonomy day project on the 13th and 14th, I’ll have a post up on our engineering blog over the weekend.

I’m back on videos and have finished up:

Maintenance Updates

I’m now using Zencoder for rendering the Large, Small, and MP3 versions of the presentations.  So locally I edit and render the 1920×1080 version, then upload it and kick off a job with Zencoder.  It’s a nice improvement (although partially implemented) to the existing process.  Once it’s fully implemented the manual steps required once the editing and initial video are uploaded will be completely eliminated.

What’s Next?

My goal is to complete another 15 or so presentations by next Monday night, not counting the 10 that are rendering now.
